The Macquarie Uni Sydney Rays are in many people’s eyes what the National Rugby Championships are all about – giving the approaching wave of Rugby talent north of the harbour bridge a crack at the next level, while at the same time respecting the role that club footy plays in the nurturing of our next Rugby World Cup and Bledisloe winners.
The Rays were initially the franchise formed from an alliance of four deep Shute Shield rivals – Northern Suburbs, Gordon, Manly and Warringah – and each of the clubs have invested much time and money in getting the franchise to where it is today. Most recently in 2016, the banner changed from North Harbour Rays to the Sydney Rays and both Eastwood & South Districts players are now part of the franchise.
The club’s charter is to promote from within, whether that be on the playing roster, the coaching team or the many off-field roles that are needed for a professional Rugby team to operate seamlessly.
The Rays are truly a touchable pathway for everyone associated with the great game of Rugby on the north shore of Sydney.

The Macquarie Uni Sydney Rays will draw their playing roster from the the following clubs – Northern Suburbs, Gordon, Manly, Eastwood, Warringah and Sourthern Districts. Three affiliated Wallabies have been allocated to the club with Michael Hooper, Scott Fardy and Rob Horne all putting up their hands for the Rays.
A number of players will then be drawn from the Super Rugby franchises but the vast majority of players will come from the four member clubs.
Our Coaching Staff
Norths 1st Grade, Premiership Winning Coach Simon Cron will guide the Sydney Harbour Rays through the National Rugby Championship season in 2016. Cron is one of the best and up-coming young coaches in the Shute Shield having guided Norths to their 1st Premiership in 41 years.
Cron is supported by former Wallaby Julian Huxley as backs coach. Norths Rugby's Rob Fowkes is Head of Athletic Performance, while Norths General Manager Adam Fulepp is Team Manager.
Our Playing Strip
The Macquarie Uni Sydney Rays’ playing strip brings together the colours of the four inaugural member clubs of the franchise into a harlequin style jersey that is already turning heads wherever it is paraded.
The jersey had its debut at the official launch of the National Rugby Championship in Sydney and positive comments about the look and feel of the jersey, shorts and socks have been coming through ever since.
