SRU Premiership Competition - Henderson Cup (4th Grade)
| Northern Suburbs | vs | Warringah |
NORTHS 28 - 8 WARRINGAH
It is great to see 4th Grade playing on North Sydney Oval. Leading their competition at this stage of the competition is a major achievement.
The side line reporter is running the line today so his comments will be brief as he draws breath between the action.
Play is underway on this beautiful but cool day. Warringah are on the attack within minutes and are camping near the Norths line. Strong defence is the only thing that is stopping the scoreboard ticking.
A series of penalties comes Warringah’s way and eventually they receive one near the posts and the scoreboard starts ticking; Norths 0 Warringah 3.
Tom Cameron makes a good break and takes play up field.
Norths are attacking in Warringah's quarter but Warringah gets possession and a rain maker kick puts Norths right back in their own quarter. A series of good breaks and a great pass by James Edwards puts Joe Jenkins through making many metres in the process. Then Josh Wilson onto James Edwards through for a good try. Joey Jenkins adds the extras putting Norths in front, Norths 7 Warringah 3.
11 minutes to go in the first half. Norths have been pinching a lot of possession and are dominating in the line outs. Norths win the line out on their quarter. An effective tackle by a Norths player and Nick Marshall is through for another Norths try. Converted and the score moves to Norths 14 Warringah 3.
Another good phase. Tom Mangan puts Tom Gurr through the gap for a classy try. Converted and the score moves to 21-3.
Josh Wilson goes off with what appears to be a knee injury and will take no further part in today’s game.
Half time has arrived and the side line reporter comments, ”Some good short passes and good running through the gaps”.
One change at half time with Simon Johnson (shoulder) coming off and Keith Coassin on.
Norths are on the attack right from the start of play. A try goes begging when the ball is dropped over the line.
Joe Jenkins comes off, hopefully not another injury. Not a good day so far.
Norths win a scrum on the Warringah quarter and James Stokes shows the opposition his heels and scores. Sam Palmer converts the try and the score moves to Norths 28 Warringah 3
Warringah’s turn to attack and they are not wasting any time in scoring a great try through some classy passing. 28-8.
Good defence is a feature of the remainder of the game with Norths too good for this Warringah team on the day.
Final score Norths 28 Warringah 8.
Crowey’s Comments: A solid game boys but there is still improvement to be made. We have a habit of one out running at the moment. We have to sort this out asap as it slows our pattern for the next phase. Unfortunately a few serious injuries to Tom MANGAN (face) and Josh WILSON (knee). Myself and the team wish them both a speedy recovery as they are very much part of the Norths 4th grade Brotherhood. We are still on top of the table with a huge match against Easts this week. This is what it is all about. We will fine-tune the engine ready to run riot this weekend against the beasties.
Best and Fairest:
3: Tom Cameron
2: Tom Mangan
1: Joe Jenkins
