| Northern Suburbs | vs | Warringah |
NORTHS 18 - 10 WARRINGAH
This week’s team was Nick Curtis, Tom Lamont, Cruz Ah Nav, Alex Howard, Seti Tafua, Mat Lamont, Will Miller, Pat Sio, Liam Walker, Alex Lavender, Lachlan Rosegreen, Jac Cameron, Trent Lake, David Bond, Ben Borg.
North Sydney Oval is looking fantastic and has to be one of the best Rugby grounds in Sydney. A fantastic day with clear blue skies and a barmy breeze.
Only a few k’s away to where Australia plays Wales. They tell me it is an absolute sell out with over 45,000 attendees.
But back to North Sydney Oval. Last year Norths inflicted a big win over Warringah so only time will tell if history repeats itself.
Play gets underway with a good run up field by Jac Cameron but unfortunately puts a foot into touch.
The team is looking good and seems to be in the same mood as last week with some solid attack and clever handwork.
Norths work play up field through some solid work in the forwards resulting in Will Miller scoring. Not converted and the scoreboard starts ticking. Norths 5 Warringah 0.
Alex Howard is now in the action and makes many metres up field with a barging run.
Pick and Drive is now the order of the day for Warringah as they drive slowly up field. Then a penalty that takes them deep into Norths quarter. It only seems a matter of time before Warringah score as they mount wave after wave of relentless attack but they knock on over the line.
Pat Sio now brings play up field and Norths are out of danger. Our guys are slow to react at the break down and Warringah get the ball. Pat Sio in the action again and makes many metres up field. Tom Lamont is playing well.
A penalty to Norths and Alex Lavender puts the ball between the posts and as a result the score moves to Norths 8 Warringah 0.
Trent Lake in the action with a fancy pass to Seti Tafua and Norths are again within striking distance of the Warringah line. Mat Lamont and onto Will Miller and onto Trent Lake but the ball goes over the side line. These long passes don’t always hit the mark as the crowd groans.
A yellow card and Warringah is one player down for ten minutes.
A great kick by Alex Lavender and Tom Lamont nearly scores.
We are displaying some clever ball skills as we spin the ball across the back line.
A penalty against Norths for not rolling away but the ball sails to the side of the posts.
With a few minutes until half time Seti Tafua goes down. It appears to be a neck injury. Half time is called.
Play is delayed for an extended period as is becomes obvious that Seti has suffered a serious injury and is subsequently taken to Royal North Shore hospital. Our prayers are with him.
The team now tries to regroup with Pat Sio taking the ball up field. Norths have Warringah pinned in their quarter. Cruz Ah Nav to Trent Lake but we go into touch.
Warringah make a good break and run three quarters of the field but a penalty to Norths takes them out of danger.
A red card to one of the Norths players and what was a difficult situation for Norths is turning into a very tough assignment to save a win out of this game.
Norths must now dig deep and again regroup. Strong leadership must be shown by the senior players if Norths is to get home.
Penalty to Warringah and the score moves to Norths 8 Warringah 3.
Seventeen minutes to go and Norths receive a penalty and Alex Lavender puts the ball between the posts. Norths 11 Warringah 3.
A great attacking raid sees Lachlan Rosengreen score in front of the Mollie Dive stand and the converted try takes the score to 18-3.
We now see some solid defence from Norths that keeps a determined Warringah at bay however with a couple of minutes to go Warringah breaks through to score.
Final Score Norths 18 Warringah 10
Best and fairest were:
3. Pat Sio
2. Cruz Ah Nah
1. Lachlan Rosengreen
Comment from the Coaches:
”The team ground out a tough victory against a physical opposition which is a good result, especially sending off Matt Lamont who was playing his last game for Norths… for now. Having said that the injury to our team mate Seti puts things in perspective and it is important that we rally together and support him in any way that we can.”
Final Score: Norths: 18 (W Miller, L Rosengreen tries; A Lavender 2 pen goals, goal) beat Warringah 10
Norths remain 4th on the competition table on 35 points.
