After the tough away loss to Parramatta the previous week, the Norths team was home to a West Harbour team who were also without a win from their first two games. It was obvious to all that this game was going to be vital to both sides to give their seasons some momentum.

Norths started well and looked sharp but it was West Harbour who would open the scoring with a penalty goal. 3-0

The next score from Wests came from nothing. Their fullback made the extra man in a backline move and was able to stand up the Norths defence and, with speed, beat grasping hands on the outside for a very good try. Wests 10-0 after 12 minutes.

This was not the start Norths wanted but, to their credit, they re-grouped and had the better of the next phases of the game. A penalty to fly-half Mitch Walton brought the score back to 10-3. Soon after a great break by the fly half saw him give the ball to his brother on the Wests quarter line. Rory Walton made a bulldozing diagonal run to the posts, monstering the Wests number 15 as he attempted a covering tackle. With the conversion Norths were on even keel at 10-10 after 20 minutes.

The Norths attack was now in full swing – the pace of the Norths backs was causing the West Harbour backline defence all sorts of problems. Bill Weakes made a number of breaks with his centre partner Chris Tuatara. From one such break the ball was stopped just short of the line by desperate West Harbour defence. With quick ball from the ruck, halfback Dave Hardisty gave a long ball to fullback Trent Lake who crossed out wide. The try was not converted but Norths had hit the lead 15-10.

Again Norths attacked out wide and a break by Chris Tuatara was followed up by Trent Lake who gave an overhead pass back to Chris who went over out wide for Norths third try with 5 minutes to go to halftime. Norths 20-10

From the kick-off, with the Wests team visibly tiring, Will Brame, back at openside breakaway, made a strong burst through mid-field. The ball went through the hands to winger Cory Browne who went over for Norths bonus point try. Norths were ahead 27-10 at halftime.

The second half saw a continuance of Norths dominance and, while the game sometimes was a bit scrappy, Norths were able to score a further three converted tries to two tries by West Harbour.

Corey Browne picked up a double showing great pace to go past his opposite number on the outside. His partner on the other wing, Isaiah Mosese joined in the act with a great chase of a kick to be rewarded by a good try and finally replacement number 10 Haydn scored the final try in a day full of highlights for Norths.

The final score of 48 to 23 to Norths told the story of their dominance in a very entertaining game of rugby. With such skill and pace, this team will trouble many opponents this season.

They will also thrill their fans with the enterprising attacking style with which they play.

A final word should go to the forward pack. The style and quality of the game that was played on Saturday has much to do with the platform set by the strong defence and support play of all in the forward pack.

This win capped of a memorable day in which Norths won all five senior grades and the three grades of colts. Well done to all the players and the coaching staff.
